Note: I am no expert when it comes to Substack Notes. I’m just writing about what I know and what I’m researching.
When I slowly started getting to know about Substack, I had no idea that Notes could be a feature that allows writers an opportunity to attract more subscribers.
I just saw it as a useless way to express yourself. But then I realized that Notes are more than just that. It’s a way to give your readers a glimpse of your writing style and your character.
What are Substack Notes?
Substack Notes are ways to share your ideas by using text, quotes, images, links and so on. It’s a way to connect with your existing and future readers.
Unlike Substack newsletters, Notes allows you to express your thoughts in short form content. It can also give you a preview of your favorite writer’s latest story. If you’re a new writer, you have the opportunity to restack your stories. All you have to do is highlight a paragraph, sentence, or word and click on “Restack”.
How to get Your Notes Out There
Even if you’re a small creator, if you want to succeed, you should strive to be more consistent in posting Notes.
I will be honest. Lately, I’ve lacked consistency, but I will try my best to get back on track. I hope you do the same as well if you’re struggling with that.
Consistency may gain you more subscribers and engagement.
Also, engage with other writers by liking and commenting on their posts. Build a community the best you can. Yes, even the smallest of creators can build a community.
It’s not like social media.
Not to be harsh, but Substack Notes isn’t meant to be the place for political rants or the most random thoughts evr. If you want to post those on Notes, go ahead. But the main purpose of Notes is to gain traction to your page. You want to make sure your readers are interested in what you have to say.
Ideas you can post to Notes
Your subscription updates
If you reached 100 subs, congratulations! Go tell the world!
If you reached 1,000 subs, awesome! Spread it out!
No matter how big or small your milestone is, share it to your readers and I’m sure they’ll congratulate you. Just make sure you exchange congrats with others who reach their milestone.
Personal stories
Inspire readers by sharing your life’s most shocking moments. For example, if you have a disability that may affect your writing and how you overcame that, don’t hide your story, tell it to inspire others.

Restacks of Your Stories
You can share your stories, especially your latest ones, in a Note and like I said earlier, highlight a part of the text to give your readers a little sneak peek. Make sure it’s one you think stands out the most.
